Inventing Time

Time. It is that thing we run out of almost every day. The lack of time is indicated every time you find yourself at your desk while at home, the family is having dinner. It is indicated every time someone says, "Hey, why don't you join us for lunch today?" and your reply is that you ... don't have time.  It is indicated every time you say, "I wish I could get "that done," or, "I wish we were doing a better job at 'this'/'that."


Time is that thing that you seem to never have enough of. 

So, how can you make more time? As the manager of your company, department, or team, one answer to this is simply to make the tools, resources, information, and instructions more easily available to your staff, managers, agents, etc ... The easiest and most sure way to do this is not on paper, not in a booklet, not in a meeting or on email. The easiest way to do this is with a company intranet. 

An intranet is a company's common gateway to all of the tools and resources that should be used each day. It is the access point for any instructions and information that helps everyone in the company do a better job. The company intranet is that focal point that answers questions before they take up your time. It is that focal point that centralizes all the tools and resources so you don't have to continue to answer the question, "What do I use for...?" 

If your company is not using an intranet today you are forcing everyone in your company to work harder for less return. You are robbing yourself of valuable time to do things that are more important that answering common questions. In today's economy, if your company is not using an intranet as an integrated part of how you manage your company - not only are you telling everyone in your company you don't care about being a modern business but you are forcing them to work harder and less effectively than those companies and individuals they compete against. 

When used effectively, an intranet is like a time machine, it will find HOURS of time for you each and every month! It might even get you home in time for dinner with the family!

New Years is that time when we get to draw a line in the sand and say, "I'm going to do such and such better than I did last year."
